Vernacular type extesion

I got really inspired by Mike Perry and Kate Morses so I started to draw a pattern the way I see London lots of street, bricks, cars, rain, sunshine etc. Then after small changes in Illustrator I applied my pattern to Arial black font as it is very bold. My plan is to screen print the letters with different colors.

Map London in type workshop with Jo

Maps are a vital part of graphic communication. Thy are used in a variety of ways to communicate this importance of location context. Maps are being used more and more as graphic design or illustrative projects, where people are taking the traditional skills as a cartographer to a more visual level. looking at the importance of but also looking at how to produce them as a style.

The idea of this workshop was to create an A5 map of 1 area of London using type. Each one of us created different part of London using only red, Helvetica font and type elements. By the end of the session we pasted them up and viewed as one.

I was amazed when I saw the map. Interesting, cool piece of work and still it did not loose any information's as a map.

A to Z Workshop with Rachel

This workshop was about our personal mapping of London.. The idea was to find an interesting way of mapping. I traced my hand made it bigger and than captured and area where I live. The reason I have chosen a hand is because I believe that our life is written in the palm. I would like to make my map more detailed as I have been living in London for a long time and have places all over London which are very memorable to me.

Cardboard 3D Workshop with Rachel

This was mad workshop heheheh we were asked to make 3D piece of work on London cut out of cardboard. I went for the the tube symbol as it was the first thing which crossed my mind. For me this symbol very iconic as for lots of people I guess. I found this workshop very relaxing. Rachel also showed us a book called Tactile which I found very interesting and full of ideas which hopefully will help me.

Rob Ryan's timelapse at Pick Me Up art fair

As I mentioned before I was really amazed by Rob Ryan's work at pick me up art fair and when I saw the girls cutting one of his LARGE piece I couldn't wait to see it on slow motion version. It has been shot on a Canon 40D using an interval timer set to one photo every one minute. So each second here represents roughly 20 mins cutting. Crazy!

Another thing as I was looking at his work I was sort of imagining how he might look like. When I googled him I was surprised because he did not look a bit like I imagined him..What's more I was standing right next to him at the art fair.

Vernacular type with Dave

This workshop was very cool..We were asked to produce our own font.To make my own font was always on top and this workshop was perfect opportunity. My first inspiration came up by using shapes out of London trees but then I wasn't very happy with it next I thought to use a tube symbol and this wasn't right for me either. That day my head was spinning and I found it really hard to focus. Anyway I'm still thinking about it and hopefully soon I come up with something nice.

Statistic Workshop with Jo

The brief was to discover different ways of communicating statistics – graphically, by hand.

We looked at this information, breaking it down and making some visual representations of the date we have gathered. We were doing this using a fun, cutting and sticking process.

The aim of this exercise was to visually represent information gathered in a graphical and interesting way. The outcome had to be hand made and be visually interesting.

I was in a group with Elena and we were discovering statistic on how many buses pass through Elephant and Castle. We looked at every bus stop around the roundabout in Elephant and Castle and wrote the buses numbers down . We found out that there were lots off buses going to different destinations .The time journey till each bus finished it's journey was from 10 mins up to 60 mins from E&C .
