Pearlfisher brands Westons Organic cider as Wyld Wood

Pearlfisher has rebranded Westons Oganic Cider , renaming it Wild Wood Preium Organic Cider and created a new visual identity for the brand.

The new name aims to highlight the ‘organic and natural’ qualities of the cider by alluding to the orchards in which the apples and pears are grown; while the “y” in Wyld references the Wye Valley that is ‘at the heart of the cider industry’, according to Pearlfisher.

The identity uses a large “W” formed from an image of two tree trunks. A small pear or apple, depending on the product, is shown at the bottom of the “W” to indicate the fruit naturally falling from the tree. Red is used for the apple variant, and green for the pear.

Natalie Chung, Pearlfisher creative director, says, ‘The new identity is bold, allowing Wyld Wood to stand proud on shelf next to other cider brands. The name and design emphasises the brand’s organic and premium quality but also connects with the core brand truth and provenance rather than relying on stereotypical organic cues.’

Westons Wyld Wood Premium Organic Cider launches throughout this month.

Recyclable packaging

The Mode Tea project was an exploration in sustainable packaging methods and processes. Through extensive research of the principle of sustainability, a packaging scheme was devised which could be fully recycled or reused. The materials proposed would all come from sustainable sources and would not be harmful to the environment.

You can actually convert bottles into glasses? Bols Genever actually used spirits bottles in making glasses and barware using a specialized handmade process.

The redesign of General Electric CFL light bulbs is aimed to bring a friendlier shelf presence through the use of basic informative graphics. The new design is packaged with post consumer cardboard rather than calm shell plastic. This ensures the use of less natural resources and therefore less impact on the environment.

The packaging design (letterpress, hand-lettering and a natural beige paper texture) reflects the homemade, natural goodness of the contents, a pasta range and complimentary pasta sauce range. The repetition of the rosette hints at the merits involved in purchasing the product – recyclable/reusable packaging, healthy food, plus the gentle impact on the environment and fair pay received by the farmers and people involved in producing the end-product.”

This project was very challenging for me. The brief was set up by Julia studio http://www.julia.uk.com/en/

The brief was to randomly choose one font out of seven and then visually represent the most unique characteristic of the chosen font in an engaging way to as broad audience as possible. This project was collaboration with another student. We chose Courier New font and we found out that the most unique characteristic is being monospaced. Monospaced font is a font whose letters and characters each occupy the same amount of horizontal space.

On of the first and strongest was to monospaced a font which is not monospaced and compared to a font (Gill Sans) which is monospaced. For the visual aspect we used rectangles and letterpress technique to step out of the normal print. Even thought this idea was visually nice comparing font to another font is not a solution.

We lasercut sentence (typed in Courier new) and stuck the cut out letters on a board which would allowed us to print in letterpress.

After going back to research we came up with a new idea which would also be engaging with any sort of audience. We cut a letters which would easily be sloth into he brackets to create different messages.

For the branding for this new udon noodle product composed of gourd powder, the design needed to be both friendly enough to be recognised in one glance at the store, and high-class to compete with other traditional udon brands. I think this packaging successfully achieve this.

I wanted to achieve an effect where by looking through either red or blue colored plastic the layers of the picture separate also when looks through both colors the picture becomes 3D... So I screen printed first mouth (blueish) and then x ray of my teeth (red) over it. The outcome looks a bit weird but it works!

Today I went to Kinetica art fair which was absolutly amazing.

Kinetica Art Fair is produced by Kinetica Museum and is the first of its kind in the UK. It brings together galleries, art organisations and curatorial groups from around the world who focus on universal concepts and evolutionary processes though the convergence of kinetic, electronic, robotic, sound, light, time-based and multi-disciplinary new media art, science and technology.

Can't wait for Kinetica 2011 which will explore the evolution of the human body, brain, mind and consciousness.

Book of art is a series of books whose pages have been folded in such a way as to create a series of 3D words. At first glance, the careful, intricate folds appear laser cut, but at closer inspection it is apparent that the artist has, in fact, folded and manually cut individual pages to beautiful effect. The ease to which one can make the mistake is a testament to the level of detail in each of the book sculptures. Isaac Salazar, an untrained self-taught artist, was initially inspired by the so-called Reader's Digest Christmas Tree sThe sculptures can take him anywhere from a day to 2 weeks to finish.

I have decided to design packaging for retro sweets. I came up with several names but what it felt right to me to call them Yumbers.

Firstly I wanted to make packaging containing 9 boxes which would be stick together ( check the video) and rotate. After a prototype I found out its a bit complicated and not as great as I had in my mind....so I completely changed the idea and designed individual boxes with different flavours. So far I only made a prototype for strawberry flavour but soon going to make more...

Another think I always wanted to do at LCC. It's so cool. I think adding a texture to designs is a good idea.

My classmates and I managed to organized a tutorial on embossing so now the techniques is much clearer to me. As for the project I asked 10 students what do they have in their pockets and these four objects were most common so I decided embossed them. Because these things were 3D object which would be really hard to put under the press I had to make a solar plate first. First I had to take a pic of my objects retouched them in photoshop and illustrator and then print them out on an acetate . After that exposed it on a solar plate for about 60 second. For the best result is recommended to leave the solar plate to dry out over night after exposing and a gentle wash.
Now I was ready for embossing! I put all objects in the book and embossed the title. For the title I laser cut the letters.

I thought about badges for some time and when I was sitting in front of the mac the idea suddenly came to me. I'm planning to screen print the mac monitor with an empty dock on the bag and then pin individual badges on the dock. Another idea was to put it on the t-shirt but it might be a bit annoying to take it off with every washing.

Its amazing what it can be fold from one sheet of paper. Some people are shockingly good at it. You might think that following instruction must be easy but its not even a folding paper properly can turn out as a big problem. All you need for origami is a paper lots and lots of patience and be very precise at folding! First I had a lots of goes on folding a rose but i

t always ended up as a snowball. Anyway i didn't give up and folded a lotus flower. It came out quite nice ;o).

This workshop was about hybrid font. We got one word n two different fonts or in the same font but regular, old or italic. By applying cut and paste method we created some initial idea for a new hybrid font. I was given bold Helvetica and Times. It was an interesting experiment. I quite like the effect on the first example and I had a Helvetica of a Times ;o)

Today I tried gelatine monoprinting . First I had to make a gelatine plate using food gelatine and a tray. I left it in the fridge for 20 hours and then used watercolors for printing. I was fun and now I wanna try monoprinting at school using roller and experiment together with etching etc.
